Queensland police expect to be able to use retested DNA to charge a lot of cases" if new laws further loosening the double jeopardy principle pass parliament.

The police commissioner, Katarina Carroll, told media on Wednesday that police were working through a backlog of cases as a result of the retesting of tens of thousands of DNA samples.
