Many of the gravest threats to humanity are drawing closer, as carbon pollution heats the planet to ever more dangerous levels, scientists have warned.

What are the tipping points? At risk are the collapse of big ice sheets in Greenland and West Antarctic; the widespread thawing of permafrost; the death of coral reefs in warm waters; and the collapse of one atmospheric current in the North Atlantic.

What else is happening? The United Nations has heard accounts of sexual violence during the 7 October attacks by Hamas, in a meeting where speakers also accused women's rights activists and UN officials of not doing more to investigate or condemn these crimes.

What has Joe Biden said? The president has denounced the reported rape and sexual violence committed against Israeli girls and women by Hamas militants, calling on the world to condemn such conduct without equivocation" and without exception."
