Chargers' Staley addresses job security after blowout loss to Raiders

Brandon Staley addressed his job security after the Los Angeles Chargers were blown out 63-21 by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

"I don't know that," Staley said postgame when asked if he'll still be the team's head coach tomorrow, according to The MMQB's Albert Breer. Yet, when asked if he should keep his role after the poor result, he replied, "Yes."

"I know what I've done here for three years. I know what I've put into this ... I know the type of coach I am," he added.

L.A. surrendered 378 total yards and turned the ball over five times in what became a lopsided contest. The Chargers were down 42-0 by halftime, the largest first-half deficit in franchise history.

"I didn't do anything well enough to get us ready to play tonight," Staley said, per NFL Network's Bridget Condon.

The Chargers have dropped five of their past six games and currently sit in last place in the AFC West with a 5-9 record. Despite the woeful performance, some of the Chargers' star players voiced their support for the embattled head coach.

"Of course, we believe in him. And he believes in us," pass-rusher Khalil Mack said, according to NFL Network's Clayton Holloway. Safety Derwin James also backed Staley when asked if he would be comfortable with him remaining the head coach going forward. "Oh ya, for sure," he said.

Several starters weren't available for the Chargers in Week 15, including Keenan Allen and Justin Herbert. Quarterback Easton Stick made his first career start, finishing with 257 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also lost a fumble that was recovered for a touchdown by Raiders defensive tackle John Jenkins.

Staley has led the Chargers to a 24-24 record and one postseason appearance in two-plus seasons at the helm.
