Lions' Bridgewater to retire after 2023

Detroit Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that he plans to retire after the 2023 season.

Bridgewater, 31, added that he hopes to coach high school football after hanging up his cleats.

The Louisville product spent the first four years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted No. 32 in 2014. Bridgewater tore his ACL ahead of the 2016 campaign and was out until late in the 2017 season.

The signal-caller also played with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins before signing with the Lions as their backup quarterback in the offseason.

Bridgewater, a one-time Pro Bowler, has completed 66.4% of his passes for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions in 79 games. He owns a 33-32 record as a starter.
