KDE freezes, desktop becomes unusable

Hello
I installed OpenSUSE Leap with KDE Plasma on an ASUS VivoBook. Very soon windows became unresponsive and the only way to exit was to power off the laptop. After booting the system the desktop background was black, missing all shortcuts. The same problem has occurred with several distros on computers of different make. Why does this happen?
