Vikings' Hockenson out for season with ACL, MCL injuries

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering ACL and MCL injuries, head coach Kevin O'Connell announced Tuesday.

The two-time Pro Bowler is among the most productive tight ends this season, ranking second at the position in catches (96), third in yards (960), and seventh in touchdown receptions (five).

The loss of Hockenson is a major blow to the Vikings' playoff hopes. Minnesota's chances of making the postseason dropped to 28% after losing to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, according to The New York Times' playoff simulator.

Hockenson arrived in Minnesota from Detroit in a rare in-division trade ahead of last year's trade deadline. He inked a four-year, $68.5-million extension with $42.5 million guaranteed in August.

The NFC North club also lost pass-rusher D.J. Wonnum for the rest of the year due to a torn quad. Wonnum, who's second on the team with eight sacks, was hurt in Week 16 as well.

In more positive injury news, O'Connell said rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison avoided a major ankle ailment and is considered day-to-day, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
