UEFI - Secure Boot - Linux and booting of Windows via Grub - Dual boot
by freewarehookie from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6HH49)
Hello there,
in former days it was simple to install grub on the mbr on a device, containing 2 partitions, Linux and Windows, the so called dual boot.
Nowadays, with new UEFI Bios, there are entries that have to be made in UEFI or on a specific, bootable space, which is on the UEFI chip?, and this has to be made in relation to secure boot and specific keys that have to be arranged with UEFI.
Coherent with the above stated, the lack of knowledge of how this goes together and very rare articles on the internet which explain it in detail and understandable, I ask for detailled information in relation to this manner here.
Because of the negotiation of specific keys between UEFI and Windows, it might be impossible to load Windows with grub and secure boot turned on.
And, last but not least, there is a value of "Windows boot Mode" in the UEFI, where the keys disappear when you select this option. The other option is "others".
Strange thing, but you might know why and explain it to me or reference a source where I can keep up with this new fantastic features, which might not work together! (sarcasm)
Thanks for helping me out.
Kind regards,
Freewarehookie
