What portable SDR to buy ?
by joboy from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6HMR9)
There are tons of portable SDR on the market, most of them are chinese clones, the most common one is original Russian design by Malahiteam, and the latest version as shown on their website is SDR 3, but there are many others up to SDR 5 by chinese on the market, that confused me a lot. The chinese made ones are smaller, prettier and have more features, but my main concern is the reliability and technical support. As far as I know those SDR are basically the same thing with some h/w and s/w enhancement/improvement, so that the highest version model should be the best to buy. As far as I read from the review on Youtube by Russian (with auto translate) the SDR 3 is the latest and better over the SDR 2, so I would consider it over the chinese made one. I just wondering if anyone has experience with those radios, and the info about firmware compatibility. Since SDR is actually a computerized radio that needs regular update, I don't want to flash the wrong FW to ruin a not so cheap radio, thanks !
