[SOLVED] what happens to data when I delete one partition and resize the other
by EMilstone from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6HNEG)
I'm not exactly a Linux newbie - but I feel this is a newbie question.
I have a 2TB data drive on an Ubuntu server. It has two partitions each ~1TB. There is data on both partitions. I have at least 2 back ups of my data partitions/drives.
If I delete the first partition and then expand the second partition to fill the entire drive - what happens to the data on this second partition? Is it rewritten to the front of the drive/partition or does it stay where it is?
Usually I back up partitions with rsync - so I don't imagine future back ups will be affected as the only thing being synced are the files/data.
Occasionally I use partclone to copy a partition FWIW.
Thanks.
