Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is likely to miss time after an MRI revealed the rookie sustained a hyperextended knee and bone bruise in Sunday's 30-20 win against the Minnesota Vikings, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided an update on LaPorta's status after the game.

"It's not as bad as it looked, but it's not good news," said Campbell, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "We'll know more tomorrow."

The star rookie's left leg twisted awkwardly as he was tackled by a Vikings defender. He was briefly down on the field before walking off gingerly with trainers. LaPorta was carted to the locker room after being evaluated on the sideline.

The 22-year-old broke the NFL record for most receptions by a rookie tight end (82) on a first-quarter touchdown grab, his 10th score of the season.

The Lions opted to play their starters with a chance of securing the No. 2 seed with a win over Minnesota and losses by the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
