Alan Bates, who inspired ITV drama, welcomes blanket acquittal proposal

The man who inspired the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office has described the government's plan to grant a blanket acquittal for thousands of post office operators convicted in the Horizon IT scandal was a positive step forward" but said there is more to be done.

Alan Bates, who ran a post office in the seaside town of Llandudno, north Wales, told the BBC Radio 4's World at One programme that more work was needed to ensure those impacted by the scandal receive adequate compensation.
