The Atlanta Falcons interviewed Michigan's Jim Harbaugh for their vacant head coach role, the team announced Tuesday.

Harbaugh owns a 118-46 record as a collegiate coach from his time with Stanford (2007-10) and Michigan (2015-23). The Wolverines recently beat Washington 34-13 to capture the College Football Playoff National Championship.

He also amassed a 44-19-1 record leading the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, his lone stint as an NFL head coach. The team made Super Bowl XLVII during the 2012 season before losing to the Baltimore Ravens, coached by brother John Harbaugh.

Harbaugh is the seventh coach to complete an interview with the Falcons, joining former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Ravens assistant head coach/defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.

The 60-year-old has also interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers for their open head coach role. However, he reportedly remains in contract extension talks with Michigan as well. Potential sanctions from the NCAA stemming from multiple ongoing investigations into the program could complicate his situation.

Atlanta is looking for a new head coach after firing Arthur Smith following a third consecutive 7-10 campaign.
