Report: Lions signing veteran Zach Ertz
The Detroit Lions are signing tight end Zach Ertz to their practice squad, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Detroit plans to potentially elevate Ertz to the active roster for next Sunday's NFC Championship Game with the San Francisco 49ers, Pelissero reports.
The move comes after Lions tight end Brock Wright suffered a forearm injury in the club's 31-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Rookie standout Sam LaPorta is also dealing with a knee injury but has played in both of his team's postseason contests.
The Arizona Cardinals released Ertz in November after he asked them to waive him. The three-time Pro Bowler posted 27 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown in seven games this season.
Ertz has 7,434 yards and 46 touchdowns on 709 career catches. The 33-year-old spent eight campaigns with the Philadelphia Eagles and won Super Bowl LII with the club before being traded to the Cardinals in 2021.
