Report: Patriots, McAdoo discussing offensive staff role

The New England Patriots are in talks with Ben McAdoo to join their offensive coaching staff, sources told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

McAdoo would likely assume the role of an assistant head coach and help new Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, Breer adds.

The 46-year-old McAdoo didn't coach in the NFL last season. He was the Carolina Panthers' offensive coordinator in 2022 after being an offensive consultant for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021.

McAdoo coached the New York Giants from 2016-17 but was fired 12 games into his final year after posting a 2-10 record.

The Patriots hired Van Pelt on Thursday. The 53-year-old was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2020-23.

New England has struggled to consistently move the ball since Tom Brady left in 2020, ranking 25th in EPA/play over the last four seasons, per Ben Baldwin's database.
