Dolphins hire Ravens assistant Weaver as new DC
The Miami Dolphins hired Baltimore Ravens assistant Anthony Weaver as their new defensive coordinator, the team announced Saturday.
Weaver served as Baltimore's associate head coach and defensive line coach during the 2023 campaign.
The 43-year-old will replace Vic Fangio, who parted ways with Miami after one season in a surprise move. Fangio joined the Philadelphia Eagles as their defensive coordinator.
Weaver had an eight-year NFL career split between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans from 2002-08. He began his coaching career at Florida before joining the New York Jets' staff in 2012.
The former defensive end spent one season as Houston's defensive coordinator in 2020 before returning to Baltimore in 2021.
Weaver received head coaching interest from the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons this hiring cycle.
He'll take over a defense that ranked 22nd in scoring defense and 10th in total yards allowed.
Weaver is the third Ravens defensive coach to leave the team following a season in which the unit topped the NFL. Former defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald left for the Seattle Seahawks' coaching job, and ex-defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson accepted the Tennessee Titans' DC role.
