Hello Folks,

I own a mf656cdw multi-functional printer/scan/fax/copier and was trying to have it fully operational under Linux (Slackware current of 15.0).

After a few attemtps was able to configure the printer (both through usb and network) by installing and tweaking linux-UFRII-drv-v580-us-05.tar.gz.

But, so far, the system could not recognize the scanner after having installed scangearmp2 (scangearmp2-source-4.50-1.tar.gz). Scangearmp2 show a message to the effect that iCan not find available scannersi. Using traditional linux tools (sane-find-scanner, xsane, scanimage -L) was not successful either.

By using, sane-find-scanner it showed a possible scanner found:
i
found possible USB scanner (vendor=0x138a, product=0x003f) at libusb:001:009
found possible USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x287b [MF650C Series]) at libusb:001:013
*# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
*# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

i
and that seems to be a match for my scanner.

Then, on /etc/sane.d/genesys.conf I made the following entry:
# Canon mf656 (my entry on 02/18/24)
usb 0x04a9 0x287b

After the above entry, still nothing is recognized (using front-end xsane and gimp) or found.

Upon entering the command iscanimage -Li nothing is found.

Any input would be appreciated.
