Dolphins cut Ogbah midway through $65M deal

The Miami Dolphins released veteran linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah, the team announced Friday.

Ogbah signed a four-year, $65.4-million contract extension with the Dolphins in 2022. His release would create close to $14 million in cap space, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

The Oklahoma State product tallied nine sacks in each of his first two seasons with Miami after initially joining the team in 2020. However, he subsequently recorded 31 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and four tackles for loss combined over the past two campaigns.

The Dolphins are slated to be over the league's $255.4-million salary cap by $46.2 million in effective cap space, which accounts for the club signing 51 players as well as its projected rookie class, according to Over the Cap.

Miami is expected to return plenty of production at edge rusher ahead of the 2024 season. However, both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips are returning from serious leg injuries that ended their respective 2023 campaigns. Cameron Goode is also set to return.

Veteran pass-rusher Andrew Van Ginkel is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring alongside Melvin Ingram and Justin Houston.
