Sean McDermott believes it's inevitable that the Buffalo Bills will finally win their first Super Bowl.

"It's not a matter of if. It's just a matter of when," the Bills coach said, according to The Athletic's Tim Graham. "That is the relentless pursuit."

Buffalo's been reinvigorated under McDermott, becoming one of the NFL's most consistent franchises during his seven-year reign. The Bills have won four straight AFC East titles, had two 13-win seasons, and produced four top-five offenses.

However, Buffalo has continuously fallen short in the playoffs, frequently a victim of the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty.

McDermott's club lost to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game during the 2020 season and then again in 2021 and this past season in divisional-round matchups. Buffalo was also defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round in 2022.

"The only thing left to do for us at this point is win an AFC championship and win a Super Bowl, which is pretty darn good," said McDermott. "There's not too many organizations that can say that over the last seven years. We've done everything else you can do, and that is what gets us out of bed in the morning."

The AFC East club is facing a tough task to keep together its contending core in 2024. Buffalo is currently projected to be $41.3 million over the salary cap for next season - the worst mark in the league, according to Spotrac.

The Bills are one of 12 NFL teams who've never raised the Lombardi Trophy. Buffalo famously lost four straight Super Bowls in the 1990s.
