The New York Jets have agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor on a two-year contract worth up to $18 million, reports Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Taylor will join the AFC East team as Aaron Rodgers' new backup after playing the last two seasons for the New York Giants. He started five games in 2023, tossing five touchdowns against three interceptions.

Adding an experienced backup behind Rodgers in 2024 was a priority for the Jets, who'll be the seventh different team of Taylor's NFL career. The 34-year-old has 58 starts under his belt.

New York traded for Rodgers during the 2023 offseason, but the four-time NFL MVP suffered an Achilles injury four snaps into his Jets debut. With the future Hall of Famer sidelined, the club struggled at quarterback while starting Zach Wilson (11 starts), Trevor Siemian (three), and Tim Boyle (two). The Jets recently gave Wilson's agent permission to seek a trade.

New York hasn't made the playoffs since the 2010 season, the longest drought in the NFL.
