A trade that would've seen the Tennessee Titans acquire cornerback L'Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs fell apart after Tennessee was unable to negotiate a new long-term deal with the star cornerback, according to The Athletic's Nate Taylor.

The Chiefs placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed last month and permitted him to seek a trade. The 27-year-old doesn't want to play on the one-year tag, whether it's for Kansas City or elsewhere, per Taylor.

The one-year tender would see Sneed earn $19.8 million next season if a new agreement wasn't reached.

Sneed is looking to land a new three- or four-year contract that would make him one of the highest-paid players at his position, according to Taylor.

Trade discussions regarding Sneed have cooled since the deal between the Titans and Chiefs fell apart. Tennessee turned its attention to improving its offense, signing receiver Calvin Ridley to a four-year, $92-million contract.

The Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, and Atlanta Falcons have backed off their pursuit of Sneed recently.

Kansas City was seeking a second-round pick in exchange for Sneed.

While Sneed would like to see a significant raise in his salary, he hasn't completely shut the door on a return to the Chiefs to pursue a three-peat.

"Hopefully, I'm with the Chiefs," Sneed told reporters earlier this month, including Fox 4 KC's Harold R. Kuntz. "Hopefully, I'm still here and, hopefully, we got back (to the Super Bowl). I pray I get to do a three-peat."

The 2020 fourth-round pick captured his second league title after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Sneed recorded 78 tackles, 14 passes defensed, and two interceptions during his 2023 campaign.
