The Cleveland Browns and running back Nick Chubb agreed to a reworked contract that lowers his $11.775-million base salary in 2024, sources told Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Chubb can earn up to $12.2 million through incentives, while his salary-cap hit will be reduced from $15.85 million to $6.275 million, Jake Trotter and Adam Schefter of ESPN report.

The 28-year-old, who's entering the final year of his deal, suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 last campaign. Chubb first had surgery to repair a torn MCL and meniscus in September before fixing his ACL in a second procedure in November.

After Chubb's second surgery, the Browns said the star running back was expected to "be able to return to play during the 2024 season."

Chubb led Cleveland in rushing each year from 2018-22 and had a career-high 1,525 yards in 2022. He earned four Pro Bowl nominations and one second-team All-Pro nod while producing 6,511 yards and 48 scores in his six seasons with the AFC North club.

The Browns relied on Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt, and Pierre Strong in Chubb's absence last year, with Cleveland's rushing offense ranking sixth in 2022 and falling to 12th in 2023.
