rpm based distros booting error
by Michael033 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6M6K2)
Hello,
I've been curious about trying out an RPM-based distribution for some time now. Recently, I attempted to install Fedora on an old laptop of mine. I created a bootable ISO of Fedora Workstation (the latest version), but upon attempting to boot from it, I encountered the following error message:
Invalid image
Failed to read header: Unsupported
Failed to load image: Unsupported
start_image() returned Unsupported
I tried various methods, including using Rufus and Etcher, to create the bootable media, suspecting a potential bug in the official media creator. However, despite extensive troubleshooting and research, I haven't been able to resolve the issue.
I also experimented with other RPM-based distributions like Rocky Linux and CentOS, but encountered the same error each time. It's perplexing because this laptop, a Dell Vostro 3546 (Intel i3-4005U, 8GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard disk), originally ran Ubuntu 12.04 without any issues. Additionally, I've successfully installed and used many Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch-based distributions on it.
The only RPM-based distribution that seems to work on this laptop is OpenSUSE. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or has any insights into what might be causing this issue, I would greatly appreciate your input.
Thank you.
