How do I set Palemoon as the default browser on Debian MATE?
by TheJooomes from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6N3MQ)
Palemoon is installed from the tar download and placed in $HOME/.local/opt/palemoon/, the executable is symlinked to $HOME/.local/bin/palemoon which is in my $PATH, and a .desktop entry was created with Mozo. All is functional except default browser behavior.
Setting it as the default browser within Palemoon clears the Firefox entry in "Preferred Applications". Palemoon does open when called upon by a hyperlink click in the email client Evolution, but opens the homepage instead of the clicked link.
I tried adding the following (excerpt from firefox-esr.desktop) to Palemoons .desktop entry:
Code:Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;...and re-logged my user session. Palemoon is still not an option in "Preferred Applications".
How can I get Palemoon to be a fully integrated default web browser?
