Choosing a distro
by Herkski from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6N7XR)
Hi everyone. I'm after some advice re choosing a distro.
I did a self build media PC about 4 years ago now and put Elementary OS on there. I got on OK and managed to get it doing everything I wanted. However, as the version of Elementary is now out of date and some programs no longer update I will need to start again as there is not an update option. As far as I can tell I have to wipe the disk and reinstall a new OS from scratch.
The other issue I have is that I have now upgraded to a 4K TV. On the previous HD TV and with the UI set to 'larger' then everything was easy to see and use from the settee (except anything running under Wine which was tiny), but even on this largest setting everything is now tiny on the 4K screen.
As I've got to install something from scratch then I'm hoping to use a distro that I'm going to be able to read and use on the new screen. I've tried a couple of Google searches and a again on here before starting a new thread.
I'm hoping there might be people on here who know which distros will allow me to increase font and icon sizes etc the be big enough to see them on a 4K screen from about 6 foot or so away. I do want to keep the resolution high as I'm planning on upping some hardware specs to make it into a gaming PC rather than just an HD media machine.
Thanks
