Media Errors on Working through a Ubuntu Server 24.04 install

Question:

What do I do, if I've downloaded Ubuntu server - compared Sha256sums with the text file and found that they match, yet when I've installed it to a USB stick and the media check is run - it fails?

Background:

I've downloaded the Ubuntu Server 24.04 Noble Numbat. I used balena-etcher installed on Windows - because it seems that I can't get the Linux version to run - I tried to run it through installing the rpm (on fedora 40) - this seemed to work - but, I don't believe that all the dependencies were installed and I tried to figure out how to get the dependencies set up.

Balena-etcher on Windows works fine - since it was used to create a bootdisk for fedora 40 for my laptop - when my laptop failed to boot because of a missing initramfs (didn't have enough space on /boot).

I ran sha256sum against the downloaded ubuntu server iso - and it checks out fine - the numbers match.

Issue:

When I ran the media test, after succesfully booting the USB key I created using balena-etcher - it reports "failure" on the media test - although, I never saw the media test option a second time after that first run.

I tried to set up regardless of the situation... I went through, and each time I tried something apart from default installation - I assumed that those entries (including installing the SSH server might be a problem) - so I simplified by entering the least information possible.

It finally got to the point where it was starting to install the system and that is when it crashes - I've tried a couple of times, to make sure I wasn't missing anything - it gives a cryptic error message - the more detailed of the error messages being extremely cryptic. I will type here, what I saw, however:

It says:
"installing missing packages"
Installing packages on target systems: ['grub

Then the following dialog box shows up:

Error Dialog Box

Quote:
Sorry, there was a problem completing the installation.

If you want to help improve the installer, you can send an error report.

[ Send to Canonical ]

The error report has been saved to

install-logs-2024-06-06.3/crash/1717711945.187775135.install_fail.
crash

on the filesystem with label 'writeable'.

The install media checksum verification failed. It's possible that this crash is related to that checksum failure. Consider verifying the install media and retrying the install.

Do you want to try starting the installation again?

Further investigation I will conduct:

Ideas are welcome!

I will, in the meanwhile be looking at using a different USB stick, or perhaps re-doing the write from balena-etcher, to see if I can get a stick without media checksum failure.
