Playing Windows Games From Battlefront On Linux
by Steve R. from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6NK9K)
I have been using Bottles to play Windows games from Wargame Design Studio. The games from Wargame Design Studio work fine. However, in the case of Battlefront.com, the game (Fortress Italy, Demo Version) will not play. I get the error message that the OpenGL Driver needs to be updated. I was going with the demo version to verify that it would work under Linux before buying the game.
I had previously made this post on the Mint forum over a year ago and the the Battlefront.com forum too. No solution suggested.
Anyway. on today's news feed Phoronix had this article: Mesa 24.1.1 Released With Many Graphics Driver Bug Fixes which rekindled my interest in seeking a solution.

There are also some side questions.
1. Is the OpenGL Driver in the game itself, meaning that it is the game that has to be modified?
2. Mesa (even with the update), itself may not have the appropriate OpenGL Driver?
3. Updating Mesa, may not result in Bottles being updated to a newer OpenGL Driver?
