Creating a Slackware boot USB stick
by mfoley from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6NV3A)
I have a system that cannot use a DVD drive, so I want to create a bootable USB thumb. However, I would like to get ALL the contents and functionality of the 15.0 Slackware installation DVD on this USB. In researching this I was pointed to using usbboot.img from the installation DVD, but this image is only 1G, so it's not possible it contains everything. Another post was pointing me to using liveslak and kind of lost me.
What I want is essentially a clone of the Slackware 15.0 DVD with all setup files ... everthing. At boot time the DVD detects whether the BIOS is configured for either legacy BIOS or UEFI and boots accordingly. I want that functionality for the USB as well, if possible.
Can I do what I want? What's the best way to accomplish this? I don't suppose I could just dd the DVD.iso image to the USB?
