No sound of fresh Devuan install

Anyone using Devuan (= Debian - Systemd)? I hope so. Devuan devs take systemd out of Debian. I gather there was some nasty split in Debian over systemd in times past, and devuan is the result.
Personally, I live in Slackware, but keep a spare distro for those awkward installs where you need bucket loads of dependencies. One such is Scribus, the DTP program. I tried a tutorial, but I can't get any sound so that's useless.
I have an AMD 5600, Asrock m/b with AMD B-550M chipset, & AMD RX 6600XT video card. That gives me 2 soundcards
In Devuan, The sound config gizmo ('Sound' in 'Sound & Video) can see the Starship Matisse outputs, but I can't hear them. The video card sound is disabled, with no choice to enable it. Even aplay gives no output. What gives?

- The RX6600XT uses an RX6800chip which grabs sound o/p for hdmi.
- I have a normal Starship/Matisse on chip soundcard which gets the inputs.
