Can one use a TPLink to connect two desktop PC's?

Hi there, I am new to this forum so it seems logic to advise you that I am all but an experienced programmer or Linux specialist. Even after having used Ubuntu from 2007 till 2012 when I switched to Mint I still am walking around in the digital world like a blind man with a stick.
This being said, here's my question:
I have two desktop PC's, one running Mint 21.2 and the other one Mint 21.3, both 64bit Cinnamon version.
Both are wire connected to a TPLink that is wire connected to internet.
On the TPLink I have two spare UTP slots that are obviously connected to internet.
Can I use these slots to wire connect the two desktop PC's in order to be able to exchange files from one to the other or would this create any problem?
Or can I simply use the TPLink with the existing wiring to create a transfer port?
Any which way, how can this be achieved?
Many thanks.
