old-er hardware vs. modern 2023-2024 commercial DVD movies

Q1. How do I play modern DVD movies on my old-er laptop hardware?

My laptop DVD-RW drive does what you would expect with blank media.
Also, I can watch 20+ year old movies with little trouble. My trouble started when I tried to watch a commercial DVD of recent vintage. {blushin} "Game of Thrones --Season One"

My Linux kit has the following packages installed along with
all of the codecs I thought useful.
  • Brasero
  • Celluloid
  • VCL
  • MPlayer
  • SMPlayer
  • Media Player
When I insert and olde DVD, I get a "What to Do" dialog and can choose one of the players. The canvas starts showing the menu or playing the content with minimal interaction.

When I insert GOT's DVD, I get the same "What to Do" but then the players don't seem to find the content. Open -> Disk offers both /dev/cdrom and /dev/sr0. I see the files mounted at
/media/username/Some-Media-Title. Even if I browse the folders with the player I cannot make content appear.

I have this trouble for both the laptop "internal" SATA DVD as well as an "external" usb connected DVD.
