Error installing Peppermint OS Update Manager tool

by
beachboy2
from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6PV43)
I hope that, amongst others, fatmac and regular Devuan users can assist with this problem.

I contributed to this recent thread:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...176/page2.html

I then decided to install Peppermint OS Fully Loaded with Devuan Base.

Everything went perfectly well until I tried to install GUI for Update Manager:
https://sourceforge.net/p/peppermint...r%20Installer/

I followed these instructions:

Install Peppermint OS Update Manager tool
:

1. Download the pepbit.sh from this link:
https://sourceforge.net/p/peppermint...epbit_install/

Right-click the file and save it to your computer.

2. Browse to the location where you saved the file and ensure it is set to
Allow this file to run as a program". To do this right-click the file and click Properties"
Then click the Permissions" tab, ensure the box next to Program:" is ticked.
Click Close.

3. Open a terminal where your file is saved.

4. Type this command Code:sudo ./pepbit.sh 5. Press Enter.

6. Once it is completed the Update GUI should be installed.

7. To use the Update Manager Tool open the Pephub.

8. Click Hardware & Software.

9. Click the Update Manager button.

10. Enter your password and it should launch.

ERROR:

Code:fred@lenny:~/Desktop$ sudo ./pepbit.sh
[sudo] password for fred:
./pepbit.sh: line 12: yad: command not foundIt turned out that yad was missing and simply needed installing.

Code:sudo apt install yadJob done, or so I thought!

My sincere apologies for the length of this output!

Please scroll down to the end for error messages.

Code:fred@lenny:~$ cd Desktop
fred@lenny:~/Desktop$ sudo ./pepbit.sh

If you wish to install a non-Debian-packaged Python package,
create a virtual environment using python3 -m venv path/to/venv.
Then use path/to/venv/bin/python and path/to/venv/bin/pip. Make
sure you have python3-full installed.

If you wish to install a non-Debian packaged Python application,
it may be easiest to use pipx install xyz, which will manage a
virtual environment for you. Make sure you have pipx installed.

See /usr/share/doc/python3.11/README.venv for more information.

note: If you believe this is a mistake, please contact your Python installation or OS distribution provider. You can override this, at the risk of breaking your Python installation or OS, by passing --break-system-packages.
hint: See PEP 668 for the detailed specification.

fred@lenny:~/Desktop$I am actually very pleasantly surprised by Peppermint OS Devuan on my 11 year old Lenovo G780 with a Pentium B960 and 4GB of RAM.

It looks attractive and is extremely well laid out similar to Cinnamon.

I just need to solve this GUI Updater problem.

Failing that, it will be back to the command line.
