Updated Ubuntu and immediately lost my wifi adapter in the process

As the Subject says, I went for the dist-upgrade (like an idiot), and as soon as I did, I promptly lost my wifi. As my user name says, there's no hope for me...yet I refuse to admit defeat. I've typed out every command I can find, I've rebooted a million times, watched more videos than I can count. The last page I tried to follow along with is:
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspo...-wifi.html#ID1
I fired up vim and made a wifi-errors.txt file, and I've saved the results of every command I've tried. since I have absolutely no idea what results you guys would like to see, I'm not posting any of them this time around. However, if anyone touches base and wants to see some, I've got no problem with that, whatsoever. On second thought, I will post this one...just in case:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
inxi -Fxxxrz |grep Network
Network:
Device-1: Intel 82578DM Gigabit Network driver: e1000e v: kernel port: f040
[18:48:51][0][aces-box:~]
| lspci |grep Network
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82578DM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 06)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In closing, I've had this nic for a few years and have had absolutely no trouble with it at all...until I just did this full blown upgrade :-/
