Social Media Poison

You've all heard this before but social media is the work of the devil. I don't doubt that things like Facebook and Instagram started off as fun little places to express yourself and whatnot, but social media has quickly and dangerously taken a nosedive straight into hateful ideologies and mind-altering addictive algorithms

A few months ago I deleted all social media that I had. I didn't really use it much to begin with, but from the experiences I had with it, I understand now why people see it as a threat. I was ridiculed by my friends, being told I would miss out on things and become "irrelevant", (whatever that means), and they were right. I'm no longer up to date on all the happenings and the latest memes, but my life is all the better because of that.

I'm part of the younger generation and I've witnessed in close quarters how social media makes people act and what kind of person it turns them into. 90% of the kids I grew up with are all unfocused, spiteful, and frankly not very bright people because they spend all day scrolling through TikTok. It's insanity. There were kids I talked to in high school that always had their phone in their hand, constantly being influenced by whatever schlop they happened to be looking at. Those people were the most unlikeable amongst my classmates. They always seemed to have this "holier than thou" attitude. I'm not sure what about phones and social media turns someone into that, but it was definitely alarming.

On the other hand, I know a couple people who have never used social media at all and, guess what, they're the most genuine, loving people I've ever met. Now maybe I've simply decided to interact with the wrong people, bits and pieces of this extreme narcissistic attitude can be seen in many cultures all over the place in people of all ages, so it's not like it's contained. People are acting this way because the constant exposure to mind-melting, bottom of the barrel media is destroying any ounce of humanity we have left in our brains. Narcissistic people run the media and it's rubbing off on us.

And yes, this is very well documented and understood but it boggles my mind that people are fully aware of the negatives of consuming so much social media and yet they are unwilling to just disconnect. Yes, it's addictive, but I was able to stop. It wasn't really that hard. I hear people complain about how they're depressed or constantly anxious... You're not depressed, you're overstimulated! Get off your phone!

Social media isn't totally bad, I mean this forum could probably be categorized as social media. I've also encountered plenty of wonderful people that use social media like any other person, but the vast majority of people nowadays are unlikeable internet addicts. Like anything, social media should be used in moderation, but I just hope more people wake up to the fact that 6-10 hours a day isn't moderation. I'm not excluding myself from this toxic culture, because I'm aware I'm not perfect and I can act in exactly the same way as the people I'm complaining about, but I try my best to be respectful and kind to people which is something that can't be said about a lot of people nowadays.

Anyway, how's y'all's day going?
