Why can't I install Alfa ar9271 driver on VMware or virtual box using kali-linux

Hi I'm Melissa and for a month I've been trying to get the driver for Alfa ar9271 I'm using wsl 2 vbox I compiled everything , lsusb always shows eth0 but today I finally got it to say wlan0 just for a minute or two after that, the adapter disconnected and I'm back at square one again. I am new to all of this it's very interesting and I love learning about how this all works I just want to know my way around kali-linux.
