Meta Is Building Its Own AI-Powered Search Engine
- An anonymous source revealed that Meta has been working on building its own AI-powered search engine for the last 8 months.
- This search engine will power Meta AI and chatbot and allow it to create answer summaries for user queries.
- Right now, Meta AI depends on other search engines to create these summaries. However, it looks like the company doesn't want to be dependent on third parties anymore.
Meta is reportedly working on an AI-powered search engine in a bid to reduce dependence on popular search engines such as Google and Bing. The news was shared on October 28 by an anonymous source closely associated with the project.
According to them, a team of engineers has been working on this project for the past 8 months to create a database of relevant information that will serve as the backbone of the search engine. If this is really true, Meta won't be the first to be working on an AI-powered search engine. Companies like OpenAI have already publicly confirmed their own AI search engine project called SearchGPT. Google and Microsoft have also added AI features to their respective search engines and are working on adding more.
The more important question is whether Meta's AI search engine will directly compete with Google or Microsoft. Well, only time has the answer for that.
What Will This Search Engine Look Like? The search engine will be a little different from the traditional ones. For example, when a user enters a query, they will be given a conversation summary instead of links to articles.
Be it recent news or information on a specific topic, everything will be delivered in the form of a summary through Meta AI.
For those who don't know, Meta AI is the AI-powered chatbot available on Meta's popular social media platforms - Instagram, Facebook, and Whatsapp. Even now, if you ask it a question, it will deliver a summary of the relevant answer to you.
However, right now Meta is dependent on other search engines to get this information. This is what it seeks to change by creating its own AI-powered search engine.
There are also rumors that a web version of Meta AI will soon be unveiled. Apparently, a test version was spotted online a while ago. But the company hasn't officially confirmed this.In other news, Meta might also be working on creating something similar to Google Maps. But once again, this hasn't been officially confirmed.
