Over 100 years after his death, Anderson Ruffin Abbott's visit to the White House and his relationship with U.S. President Abraham Lincoln continue to fascinate people. Toronto-born Abbott practised in Hamilton and was the first Black Canadian licensed as a physician, notes the author of a book on "courageous" Civil War surgeons.
