Learning a new skill before first bell on Bike Everywhere Day

My kid initially wanted to take the school bus this morning, but then I told her it was Bike Everywhere Day and she lit up and decided to bike instead. It was a tiny bit drizzly, so I asked her if she still wanted to bike even if it was a little rainy, and she said, Daddy, we like biking in the rain!"

The drizzle had stopped by the time we got rolling. Crossing NE 50th Street, usually the worst part of the ride, was very easy because there was some kind of backup for folks trying to drive onto I-5, so traffic was standing still as we crossed. A few blocks later, she yelled out, Daddy, look!" She had figured out how to stand on only one pedal while still rolling gradually downhill toward her school. At first she could only do it for a second or two, but a few blocks later she could hold steady on one foot. New skill unlocked before first bell.
