Expanding our shop with more local bike stuff, such as Pedal, Stretch, Breathe: The Yoga of Bicycling

The Seattle Bike Blog online shop is expanding! Now you can get more than just copies of Biking Uphill in the Rain. I will be slowly adding Seattle-associated bike stuff like bikey books by Seattle-based authors or bike art by local artists or ... who knows what else?

For example, you can now buy new old stock copies of the 2013 book Pedal, Stretch, Breathe: The Yoga of Bicycling signed by author (and my wonderful spouse) Kelli Refer. These copies were admittedly easy for me to stock since they have been sealed in a box in my bedroom for a decade, but now this book is officially retro. I think it's great! It not only includes some handy with-bike stretches you can do while waiting for the bridge, it also has some lovely interludes inspired by biking around our beautiful city.

I also added some new stickers, such as a purple and gold version of the Seattle Bike Blog sticker that was supposed to look like UW colors but instead looks surprisingly similar to a tube of Chamois Butt'r. I'm not mad about it.

Don't forget to pick up a short stack of our Real Seattleites Don't Honk stickers.

Or an I [Bike Uphill in the Rain] Seattle banner sticker, which is currently on sale.

After researching merch store options, I have decided at for now against using an on-demand service that would let me offer a ton of different products that are processed and shipped by a third party. There are obvious benefits to these services, especially since I wouldn't need to handle the processing work or hold inventory, but they also offer much lower margins (or I would have to charge A LOT to get a decent margin). My vision for the Seattle Bike Blog shop is to make some unique stuff available while also using proceeds to support our reporting. I assume that people making purchases are doing so at least in part as a way to support our work, so a service where the vast majority of a purchase goes to a third party doesn't feel quite right.

My goal is to keep the shop lively and interesting with a special focus on stocking things that are impossible or difficult to find elsewhere. Do you have an old box of local bicycling stuff and don't know what to do with it? Email tom@seattlebikeblog.com! Are you a local artist or crafter who makes bike-themed works? Let's talk!

Thanks for reading and supporting Seattle Bike Blog.
