Why ex-NFL QB Ryan Fitzpatrick believes 49ers will bounce back in 2025 season originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

  • Programming note:The American Century Championship will air Friday, July 11, from 1-3 p.m. PT on Peacock, and again from 5-7 p.m. PT on GOLF Channel. Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13, the tournament will air locally on NBC Bay Area (KNTV) from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT.

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick believes the 49ers still have some ... magic ... left in them.

While speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco on Wednesday at the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, Fitzpatrick noted that he expects the 49ers to rebound during the upcoming 2025 NFL season.

Without a doubt," Fitzpatrick told Maiocco. The team is too talented. They've lost some talent. They had a lot of injury stuff last year. But they are well-coached. They're a super-talented team. We're going to see George Kittle out here, which I can't wait. But yeah, it'll be a bounce-back year for them."

Kittle and the 49ers had a dominant 2023 season, which ended with a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. However, San Francisco didn't replicate that success last season, finishing with a disappointing 6-11 record.

The 49ers finished in last place in the NFC West and missed the NFL playoffs for the fourth time in eight seasons under coach Kyle Shanahan.

Coming off a busy offseason that saw several star players leave via free agency or trades, the 49ers still believe they have the talent to compete for a Super Bowl championship. Kittle, quarterback Brock Purdy and linebacker Fred Warner all signed new contracts, keeping them in San Francisco for the next few years.

While some NFL pundits opine that San Francisco's Super Bowl window has closed, Fitzpatrick disagrees.

I don't think so," Fitzpatrick told Maiocco. I think when you have your quarterback right and when you have your head coach right, those things tend to follow. And so, they're in great hands with Kyle. They're in great hands with Brock. And so [the] window is going to be open with those guys."

The 49ers and their fans surely hope Fitzpatrick is right.
