A battery starter set is a good way to build a home DIY cordless tool kit because batteries are often the most expensive part of your cordless tool arsenal. While you might be able to get tools that come with one battery, if you plan to use your tools a lot, having an extra battery or two will allow you to have a fresh battery on the charger all the time. Ryobi batteries are an affordable, reliable choice for lots of tools, including cordless drills, drivers, saws, and landscaping equipment. I have a set of Ryobi lawn tools, and I also use this battery set as a part of my emergency kit, with an inverter as an emergency backup power source to charge cell phones and other small electronics.

ONE+ 18V Lithium-Ion Starter Kit with 2.0 Ah Battery, 4.0 Ah Battery, and Charger $79.00 at Home Depot $205.00 Save $126.00 Get Deal images-1.fill.size_autoxauto.v1754657832.png images-1.fill.size_autoxauto.v1754657832.png Get Deal $79.00 at Home Depot $205.00 Save $126.00

On its own, a Ryobi 4-amp-hour battery without a charger can cost $100, so getting a 4-amp-hour battery, a 2-amp-hour battery, and a charger for $79 is a big discount. The regular price for a 2-amp-hour battery and charger is $89, and you only get one battery with that set. Adding an extra, larger capacity battery and knocking $10 off the total price is a significant savings.

Having a pair of batteries makes using your tools so much easier-you can swap a dead battery out for a fresh one, always leaving one on the charger, so saving money on a pair of batteries makes a lot of practical sense.

Why I like this battery set

The 18-volt Ryobi battery set that I own is used to run a small Ryobi lawn mower as well as a string trimmer under normal circumstances, but I don't use them every day for shop work-so these batteries were a good candidate to double as a part of my emergency kit. Since there's almost always one battery fully charged, and usually two, using them with an inverter when the power goes out has been a life saver on more than one occasion.

I've used this set during winter storms, and once during a power outage caused by excessive heat. When I put together my wildfire kit, I keep my inverter and a fresh battery in the kit so I can use it for an extra power source on the go. I also once used these batteries with an inverter to run a small projector and speaker for a movie night, and it ran for over two hours without issue on the 4-amp-hour battery.

Why Ryobi batteries are a good choice

18-volt Ryobi batteries can be used to run over 300 different tools, so depending on what your needs are, chances are that Ryobi makes a tool for you that fits these batteries. You can use these batteries like I do, with lawncare equipment, but you can also use them with a wide variety of Ryobi tools from tire inflators to nail guns. Depending on how many tools you need to use simultaneously, a couple of batteries can go a long way, especially for home and DIY use. A Ryobi battery set can allow you to try out different tools as you build your DIY skills, and expand your tool needs.

Ryobi also has a good track record of making their batteries backwards-compatible to previous systems, so even if you have older Ryobi tools from the early 2000s, you can likely still use them with the current battery system. It's also likely that newer tools that come out will be backwards-compatible with your current batteries as well.
