Dolphins RB De’Von Achane returning to practice, expected to play Week 1 opener vs. Colts
Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane returned to practice on Monday and is expected to play the team's Week 1 opener against the Indianapolis Colts, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Achane, 23, has been sidelined for the past three weeks, missing the Dolphins' final two preseason games. The running back was held out of practice as a "preventative measure," according to head coach Mike McDaniel. The hope was that the injury wouldn't linger with rest and that he'd be ready for Week 1.

If he doesn't have any setbacks, he'll be playing," McDaniel told reporters.
Last season, Achane rushed for 907 yards and six touchdowns on 203 attempts, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He was also a very effective receiver out of the backfield, tallying 78 receptions (on 87 targets) for 592 yards and another 6 TDs.
With that production, Achane is No. 1 on the Dolphins' depth chart at running back. His return could be even more important as Jaylen Wright recovers from a "small procedure" on his lower leg. Alexander Mattison is out for the season after suffering a neck injury that required surgery.
That leaves rookie Ollie Gordon II, in addition to recently signed Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty, to contribute at the position.
Gordon, Miami's sixth-round pick (No. 179 overall) out of Oklahoma State, "took advantage of an inopportune injury situation," according to McDaniel (via Louis-Jacques), adding that "it was really cool to see a guy rise to the challenge."
