Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is going on injured reserve due to a groin injury, which will sideline him for at least four weeks. However, he is expected to be out "indefinitely," reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Johnson, 26, missed all of training camp and preseason with his groin issue. He missed the Bears' Week 1 opener versus the Minnesota Vikings, but returned to play Week 2 versus the Detroit Lions. Johnson left that game in the second quarter after making two tackles, apparently reaggravating his injury while diving to break up a pass. Losing Johnson and linebacker T.J. Edwards, Chicago went on to give up 52 points in defeat.

However, Bears head coach Ben Johnson told reporters earlier this week that the defensive back sustained a different injury against the Lions.

"It's a new injury, it's not related to what he had before," he said, via ESPN's Courtney Cronin.

Placing Johnson on IR would appear to indicate that he could miss the rest of the 2025-26 season and might require surgery to repair the injury.

The two-time Pro Bowler initially suffered the injury during offseason workouts. During an appearance on "The Pivot" podcast, he explained that he tore his adductor muscle off the pelvic bone. He missed all of training camp and the preseason while on the non-football injury list.

Johnson was Chicago's 2020 second-round pick (selected No. 50 overall) out of Utah. In his six NFL seasons, he's compiled 7 interceptions, 40 passes defended, 216 tackles and 11 tackles for loss.

Prior to last season, Johnson signed a four-year, $76 million contract extension with $54.4 million in guaranteed money. The total value of the deal and his $19 million in average annual salary rank him in the top 15 among NFL cornerbacks.
