Minnesota Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz headed to the locker room early in Week 5. Wentz walked into the team's locker room a minute before halftime due to a left shoulder injury, the team announced.

The injury appeared to occur during the team's final drive of the second quarter. On a third down, Wentz attempted to scramble to pick up a first down. He took a big hit short of the sticks. The Vikings had to punt.

Wentz was able to walk off the field, but apparently headed into the blue tent on the sideline to be evaluated for a possible injury. Before halftime hit, Wentz was spotted walking to the locker room early.

He reportedly needed X-rays on his shoulder, per the broadcast.

Shortly after Wentz left, the Vikings deemed him questionable to return due to a left shoulder injury. The Browns were able to run the clock down to nine seconds before kicking a field goal at the end of the half.

Undrafted rookie Max Brosmer took the field just before halftime and took a knee.

While things sounded dire heading into halftime, Wentz managed to recover enough to take the field at the start of the third quarter. Prior to the injury, Wentz was 7-for-12 with 73 passing yards.

Brosmer joined the Vikings in April as an undrafted free agent and was a surprising addition to the team's final 53-man roster when camp broke. He was inactive early in the season as the team's emergency third quarterback, but an injury to starter JJ McCarthy in Week 2 elevated Brosmer to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind Wentz.

Brosmer, 24, spent one season as a college starter at Minnesota. He threw for 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in 13 games with the team in 2024.

His kneel down at the end of the first half Sunday was not Brosmer's first NFL appearance. The rookie got some playing time in the team's 48-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3. Brosmer completed two of his four attempts for 29 yards in that contest.
