NFL announces Black Friday game between Bears and Eagles won't require subscription to stream on Prime Video
The NFL is looking to set a record when the Chicago Bears take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday. The league announced Wednesday that fans who want to watch the contest - which will stream on Prime Video - will not need a subscription to view the game.
The league also teased that the game will be the "first NFL event to be presented globally on Prime Video, which is available in over 240 countries and territories around the world."
With the move, the NFL and Prime Video could be looking to break the league streaming record. While the league's Week 1 contest between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers drew decent numbers on YouTube, the game didn't touch the record for most-streamed NFL game.
That record belongs to Netflix, which brought in 24 million fans during its Christmas Eve doubleheader last year.
By making the Prime Video game available to non-subscribers, the NFL could be looking to exceed that 24 million figure.
Whether the league gets its wish could depend on how well the Bears play ahead of their Nov. 28 matchup with the Eagles. After six games, Chicago finds itself with an impressive 4-2 record under new head coach Ben Johnson. If the team continues to play above expectations, that could set up a strong matchup vs. the Eagles in Week 13.
Philadelphia shouldn't have any issues drawing eyes to the game. The team is off to another strong start after winning the Super Bowl last season. The Eagles have yet to fully hit their stride on offense, but still sit at 5-2 through seven weeks.
The Bears and Eagles won't have much competition for views on Black Friday. While the NBA has games scheduled for that date, all of them will take place later than the Bears-Eagles game, which will air at 3 p.m. ET. The NBA slate won't get underway until 7:30 p.m. ET.
