Jets’ stunning comeback helps Aaron Glenn earn first victory as head coach
Aaron Glenn officially earned his first win as an NFL head coach on Sunday afternoon.
After an 0-7 start to the season, Glenn and the Jets went on the road and pulled out a gutsy comeback victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Led by outstanding performances from the dynamic duo of Justin Fields and Breece Hall, they were able to overcome a 14-point fourth quarter deficit.
Very, very exciting," Glenn said. I told our guys at halftime, these are the games that I really can tell the mental and physical toughness of our team, and the grit that we've been talking about that we have to play with to win these games.
You guys have been hearing me say before you can learn how to consistently win, you have to learn how not to lose, and there was a number of things that we did today that didn't put us in a position to lose this game, but put us in position to win."
Glenn was congratulated by a number of his players as they walked off the field.
He was then met by a rousing ovation as he addressed his players in the locker room following the victory.
Defensive lineman Harrison Phillips ;picked up Glenn, who received even louder cheers after being presented the game ball by Jets Chairman Christopher Johnson.
It feels good," Glenn said. These guys, this staff and this team get criticized so much and I understand why -- we were 0-7, we brought a lot of that on ourselves, but there is a lot of it that I feel is unwarranted, it is what it is.
I'm just so happy for those guys, but I also know we still have a long way to go -- I'm going to enjoy this with those guys and my family, because those are the guys who deserve this. We're going to get out of here and enjoy the bye week and get ready for Cleveland."
