Jets trading CB Michael Carter II to Eagles in exchange for WR John Metchie III
The Jets are trading CB Michael Carter IIand a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Eagles, SNY's Connor Hughes confirms.
In exchange, New York is acquiring WR John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A fifth-round draft pick out of Duke in 2021, Carter quickly established himself as the team's No. 1 slot corner, proving to be a strong complement to Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed (or whoever else was playing outside).
Carter had a career-best two interceptions in 2023 and has broken up 26 passes over the course of 65 career games in a Jets uniform. He also forced four fumbles and recovered five fumbles.
The Jets signed Carter to a three-year extension in September 2024, and while he is technically under contract through the 2027 season, there is a potential out in his contract at the end of this year, which made him a desirable trade target.
Metchie was a second-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent his first two years with the team but wasn't able to carve out much of a role, reeling in just 40 receptions for 412 yards and his lone career touchdown.
The speedy Alabama-product was shipped off to Philly this offseason in exchange for TE Harrison Bryant and draft picks, but he hasn't made much of an impact there either, making just four catches over the first seven games of the season.
He is in the final year of his rookie deal and will be an UFA in March.
