Josh Jacobs says Eagles knew Packers' play call on key fourth-down fumble: 'They called it out'

With time winding down Monday night, the Green Bay Packers were trying to drive down the field for the possible game-winning score. But the team's offense stalled out, leaving them with a pivotal call on 4th and 1 on their own 44-yard line.

Converting the play wouldn't guarantee the Packers would win or tie the game, but it would have kept the drive alive with just 1:30 to play and the team trailing by three. And with Josh Jacobs in the backfield, it seemed certain the Packers would get the job done.

They didn't. Jacobs was stuffed in the backfield. In a desperate attempt to keep his team's hopes alive, Jacobs tried to pitch the ball back to quarterback Jordan Love. Instead, Jacobs fumbled. The Eagles recovered the ball and eventually won the contest 10-7.

While Jacobs usually converts on those short-yardage plays, there was something different about that 4th and 1. Turns out, the Eagles knew exactly what was coming and called out the play on the field before the Packers ran it, Jacobs said after the contest.

"Fourth-and-1, they called out our play," Jacobs said. "We ran it like four times, and they called it out... the clock was going down, we kind of snapped it fast, faster than we wanted to and they made a play. I tried to pitch the ball back to Jordan, where the fumble came, but at that point, you're playing backyard football, it's 4th down. So yeah, that's kind of how it went."

Love also implied someone on the Eagles knew the play call. Love added that he felt the box was light, and decided to run the play anyway.

"I think it's a call that we called a couple times going fast throughout the game," the QB said. "They probably heard the call or were guessing. There was a D-lineman saying some stuff, but I still thought we had a light box and we could try and run it right there."

Jacobs and Love weren't wrong. Incredibly, on-field mics managed to pick up an Eagles player yelling out the exact play the Packers were looking to run on 4th and 1. It's unclear which member of the Eagles' defense yelled out "inside zone, this way" before the snap, but people have credited defensive tackle Moro Ojomo with making the call.

YIKES: #Eagles DT predicts Matt LaFleur's 4th and 1 play before it's even snapped and it's stuffed for a loss.

Whoever made the call turned out to be correct. If that wasn't evident due to the result on the field, it was confirmed by two members of the Packers after the game.

Despite that stop, the Packers actually still had a chance to win the game in the final minute. Following that turnover, the Eagles couldn't run out the clock. The Packers regained possession with 27 seconds left, but couldn't drive far enough down the field to give kicker Brandon McManus a chip-shot attempt. McManus instead missed for 64 yards out, leading to the loss.

With the loss, the Packers surprisingly fell to third place in the NFC North at 5-3-1. The season, of course, is far from over, and the Packers still have five division games on their schedule.

What's more concerning for Green Bay is that at least one team was able to pick up on their offensive play calls and tendencies. The Packers' divisional foes will undoubtedly watch the film to find the same tells Eagles defenders discovered Monday night.

It will be on the Packers to make the necessary adjustments and ensure that situation doesn't take place again, especially against a division rival.
