The Philadelphia Eagles missed out on Mike McDaniel for their offensive coordinator position, and are now considering his former OC in Miami, Frank Smith. Reports on Monday are that the Dolphins coordinator already met with Philadelphia, as they continue to find their guy for the job.

Smith's NFL career includes time as an assistant OL coach for the Saints (2010-2014), a tight end coach for the Bears (2015-2017) and the Raiders (2018-2020), and was the run-game coordinator and OL coach for the Chargers in 2021. He then landed with the Dolphins in 2022 and held the offensive coordinator role there for four seasons. In Miami, McDaniel was the offensive play caller, and that isn't something Smith has experience with yet in his career.

At this point, it seems like most of the names the Eagles initially had interest in have all preferred other opportunities, but some of the candidates they've spoken to, probably weren't getting a job offer in Philly anyway. It seems that the team is casting a wide net and talking to people with various experience in various schemes, to try and identify different ways of doing things.

Bringing in Smith is just another way to pick the brain that coached in McDaniel's scheme, and possibly consider someone who hasn't gotten a lot of buzz around the league ... yet.
