Sunday's Super Bowl 60 between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks should serve as strong motivation to the Las Vegas Raiders as we head to free agency.

The lesson?
It's OK to spend big in March.

The old adage, and often the approach by teams, is to be careful in free-agency spending because it often doesn't work out and it's a distant second to the draft in terms of productive roster building.

However, the 2025 NFL season showed that isn't always the case. According to NFL reporter Matt Williamson (a friend, but no relation), the Patriots spent the most in the NFL in free agency in 2025, while the Seahawks were fourth.

Most $$$ spent in free agency this past offseason:

4. #Seahawks

I'd say it was money well spent for both clubs. The Patriots went from 4-13 in 2024 to 14-3 last season. The Seahawks improved from 10-7 to 14-3.

That should give motivation to Raiders' general manager John Spytek, who was conservative in free agency in his first season in Las Vegas last year. The Raiders have among the most salary-cap room in the NFL and they have plenty of needs.

This year's Super Bowl shows it can, indeed, pay to spent in free agency.
