Colorado defensive line coach Domata Peko takes job with Pittsburgh Steelers

The Colorado Buffaloes are in the market for a new defensive line coach following the news that Domata Peko has left Boulder to take a similar role with the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers.

Peko spent only one season with Deion Sanders and the Buffs after coming to Boulder before the 2025 season. In that sole season, CU's defensive line showed some flashes, but overall took a considerable step backwards from 2024.

Prior to coming to Colorado, Peko played in the NFL from 2006 until 2020 as a nose tackle. He started his coaching career in 2024, working as a defensive analyst for the Dallas Cowboys under head coach Mike McCarthy. After McCarthy's departure from Dallas, Peko made the decision to come to Boulder. When McCarthy was hired by the Steelers in January, Peko evidently got a call from his former boss and made the choice to return to the pro level.

So far, there has been no indication as to who will step into Peko's former place on CU's staff. With spring football starting soon, one would assume that the hole left by his departure will be filled sooner rather than later.
